Let's Create Tactile Map Plates!

Join the Workshop of Artist Nao Saito ! You will take a tour around Chiba City Museum of Art with her, and explore memorable moments and small delights and create them to tactile map plates through textures using familiar materials. Each session will have a different theme.

In July, we will explore the special exhibition rooms at 8th and 7th floor, and in August, the permanent exhibition room at 5th floor. In July workshops, need an exhibition ticket. High school students and younger are free of charge.

Schedule for workshop with language support. Staffs who speak some languages will attend the workshops.

Children in 3rd grade or below must be accompanied by a guardian.

Participation Fee
Free for the workshop, but an exhibition ticket is needed. High school students and younger are free of charge. 
Additional Information
  • Participants will walk around the museum during the workshop. Please wear comfortable clothing and shoes.  
  • Bring a watch or other timekeeping device.  
  • The plates created during the workshop will be used in Art Lab project and cannot be taken home.

    Artist Profile  

    Nao Saito

    Completed Master’s degree from Spatial design, University of Art and Design Helsinki (now Aalto university), Helsinki, Finland. Founder of UNI DESIGN. During her studies in Finland, she designed a “Tactile Map” for the visually impaired and the sighted in architectural spaces, which inspired her to design spaces relying on the senses and personal spatial memories. She works extensively in exhibition design, educational tools for museums, furniture design in architectural spaces and writing about spaces. Her notable works include:  

    • “Rut Bryk: Touch of a Butterfly” exhibition (venue design)  
    • “Arnold Lobel” exhibition (venue design)  
    • “Touch the Small Garden Museum” at the Tokyo Metropolitan Teien Art Museum (hands-on design)  
    • “Nagano Prefectural Art Museum: Open Museum”(educational tool design)
